When God sends a rainy day, play in the puddles!

So, here goes with my first ever blog about anything – it’s quite exciting!
I’ve titled this blog such because that’s kind of what I’ve been doing, if my garden counts as a puddle. It has rained all day off and on but, by 8 o’clock this evening, I had cabin fever and decided to chance it and venture outside (just as I did yesterday evening). Yes, it was raining, but not all the time. And I had a fleece and boots, so it was fine. I cut back the Alchemilla, as it was on the point of seeding and, although very fond of it – I love the way it holds raindrops like diamonds – I would also like to see other things in my garden next year. I put in a Lobelia Fan blue and a couple of marguerites from the ‘nursery’; that’s where I keep cuttings, divisions etc. I did some belated staking of a lovely Sidalcea Rosanna (bought because it shares my daughter’s name) and Rosa Just Joey who was hiding her head in the leaves of a spent blue hardy geranium. Now, I know the rose is called Joey but somehow the blooms are just too decidedly feminine, so ‘Joey’ must be for Joanna or Josephine or Jocelyn even.
Not sure I accomplished much else, but I came in happy, if filthy, and definitely the better for having played in the puddles. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go. You never know what you might be missing!

I went out too in the drizzle, deadheading, until it started really pouring down, then I retreated back inside. Still, got my petunias done!

Wonderful Blog title!
You have just reminded me, I have to go and deadhead a friends alchemilla while she is away!!

Welcome to Goy and well done with the blog, enjoyable read, you would`nt be playing in the puddles if you were around here as they have turned into lakes and our roads are rivers, poor dog is suffering as its thundering in the distance. Oh well armchair gardening on Goy, lol..

Sometimes you have to just get out there !
We were promised rain this afternoon but we got out there and although it clouded and then there was bright sun , we seemed to get alot done before the eventual deluge at 5.45pm . Where would we be without the garden ?
Thundering here too Lincslass .

I must be honest and confess that I borrowed my blog title from a stamp that I bought for card-making, as i do a lot of crafts. I thought it would be perfect for anyone feeling a bit down ( not to be confused with serious depression) or going through a bit of a rough patch, but it does lend itself well to the gardening theme. Thanks for the kind comments.

Welcome to GoY - I love the Tuesdaybear name!

Playing in the puddles is great!! How positive you are!

Sorry to hear that some of you have rather too much rain. Just been looking at your photos Stickitoffee. You have a real talent - especially love Minty pictures. She's very beautiful. Tuesdaybear is after a small, irresistable bear whom I bought on a Tuesday and of whom I am particularly fond. I have a weakness for teddy bears, so naming new ones becomes a challenge.

19 Jul, 2011

Oh that's so nice.
You are much too kind in your comments. I love teddy bears. Have you got a picture?

19 Jul, 2011

I don't know how to upload my photos to the laptop but when I find out, I'll put one on - maybe even some garden photos too!

19 Jul, 2011

Do you mean from the camera to the lap top or from the lap top onto here?

19 Jul, 2011

I love teddy bear names!!
We have Peace Teddy, Toffee Bear, Office Ted, Desert Ted and Pacca Ted! The dogs are allowed nowhere near them!
Good luck with uploading photos!! It's fun when you can show pics.

I can't do either of those things yet, Sticki T. but husband has promised to help after he breaks up from school. Your teddies sound lovely, Lulu.

20 Jul, 2011

They say thank you very much Tuesdaybear!

20 Jul, 2011

I used to worry about putting pictures on the computer and thought I couldn't do it but it's ok, you plug in the little lead that comes with the camera and the computer tells you what to do. All the best, hope you work it out!

Lulu they sound lovely - like the sound of toffee bear - are they Charlie bears? Do you have a photo lulu?

20 Jul, 2011

Well...you've done well Tuesdaybear on writing your first blog. I'll look forward to many more (and your photos when you've graduated the master class of GoY photo sharing...lol).

Welcome to GoY as well....I think you are quite new to the website and you'll find a great kinship here with so many happy gardeners (and crafters too).

I've got a fair few teddies as well...but not named them. Our grandchildren (especially our youngest at 4.5 years, likes to take one home on rotation on most of his visits.... last weekend he chose my big brown fluffy bear who wears a santa hat all year round...lol).

Happy gardening, Tuesdaybear :)

18 Oct, 2011

Don't know why it's only now I'm seeing this blog lol I know I am slow, but this is rediculous ;o))
Anyway, I love the rain, and I like to go out in it - with an umbrella of course ! ..... and I enjoy sitting in my shed when it rains and hearing it beat on the roof.
Like you I also do gardening in the rain. It helps to water things in :o)
I hope we have a better summer this year though. ... Rain I can cope with (I enjoy it) , but I would like it a few degrees warmer :o)

22 May, 2012

I also love the sound of rain on the roof , Hywel , it makes me feel comfortable ( probably because I'm not out in it ).

24 May, 2012

I agree with you both about the rain on the roof- especially when I am snugly tucked up in my bed at night!
It has certainly warmed up now here, Hywel, so I do hope it has for you too. The last few days have been glorious; the roses and clematis are beginning to bloom and there are buds on the honeysuckle. The columbines are at their peak and there are hardy geraniums in abundance. Every time I go into the garden I see something new and I get ridiculously excited. Just loving this weather.

Thanks for your comment, Leighleigh. Enjoy your little Charlie Bear. My little bears are all grown up now - even the Baby Bear. He's 18 now! Where do the years go?

19 Jun, 2012

i know t.b my youngest- charlie bear is 9month i feel like hes only 5month though, theyre both close in age, with alfie at 2 + a 1/2 theyre going to be trouble! :-)

21 Jun, 2012

Well - I am really late finding this! I enjoyed it very much.
Your garden sounds full and thriving.

I believe "Just Joey" is named after the breeder's wife. I saw him on television once (or did I read an interview?!) and he said he was telling someone he was going to name the rose "Joey" and the response was "Just Joey?" to which he replied "Yes. Just Joey".

4 Aug, 2012

Ahh. Thanks for that, Mel. It's nice to hear the story behind a plant. Just Joey is an absolute beauty, tho' sadly finished for this year, I think.

4 Aug, 2012

That went particularly well for a 1st (And may I say, excellent ) blog, don't you think?
Shhhh, I'm about to read your 2nd. Lol.

7 May, 2013

And thank you again, Mouldy. I can't believe it's two years since I wrote it! As Sandy Denny asked, 'Who knows where the time goes?'

7 May, 2013

It has a habit of leaping from the clock to the back of the mind, doesn't it? :-|

8 May, 2013

Very well put, Mouldy.

8 May, 2013

Why, fanx fair maid. Lol.

9 May, 2013

Well, as you can't see me, I'll just enjoy the compliment!

9 May, 2013

And there's me, in all my glory...a fine figure of a scarecrow! Lol.
