At Last .......... a good downpour of rain

I think that Monday 30th May should be recorded for posterity.

Here in our little corner of North Hampshire, we haven’t seen anything that resembled serious rain for around 7/8 weeks.

When it did come it very courteously crept in gently during the afternoon allowing me the time to finish digging out a new border before well and truly watering in the compost mix.

Tuesday morning – 6.45 am – poked my nose out of the backdoor to let the dog create another brown patch on our already speckled lawn – and what a beautiful fresh wet fragranced smell drifted up the nostrils.

Rain drops still laying on all of the foliage, the grass looking so green and fresh, dandelions and daisies popping there heads up and standing to attention ready for the lawn mower blades.

I was lost – nothing outside of the greenhouse needed watering – a very unusual occurence. I was even early for work …..

Another thunderstorm yesterday evening and I sat in the greenhouse, pottering about and listening to the cricket, in between lightning static bursts. It rained all night but we really need a week of rain.
Still, the first visitors of the summer arrive tonight so that will encourage the rain.....

Hallo Tony...just the same here...I donĀ“t know when it rained last...but today it started drizzling around 8 am and carried on all day..sometimes a little harder...I was down the garden about an hour ago and it is slowly coming back to life...but so are the slugs and snails!.

Tony we had rain all day yesterday, not just showers, it was as you say proper rain, I kept carting water from my main water butts to my extra ones so as none went to waste through overflowing, not been able to do that for a long time, I didn`t even mind getting a bit wet whilst doing that, hope my plants appreciate that......

Yes, such a relief isn't it Tony. I live not far away near Sandhurst and we got some yesterday too, not as much as I would like but must be grateful for what we got eh........and no Shirley we can't spare any to send over to you, surely you're not STILL waiting? I think you're out of luck now for this week now :o((

Lily, I'm sorry to report we had about five raindrops today, I counted each one, honestly! The forecast for the coming 3 days is sunny intervals with temps rising to 23 degrees and not a black cloud in sight. Great for those on half-term holidays but hopeless for gardeners and farmers. I cut the grass for Mum this morning, dust flying behind the mower from the dry ground and the soil edge up to the path is cracking now . . . .: o (((((
