Not quite DIY more DIFM (Do it for me!)

I was determined when I got up this morning not to lose the children to the Wii and computer, so I announced that it was about time that the birds had a new table, and that the kids should make it. So they have spent the morning cutting and sawing, rubbing bits of wood together, and hammering nails into wood and posts into the ground.

No pics yet – I’ll take one tomorrow, but I am very pleased with it – and with them. Cant wait to spot the first visitor.

I’m sure there have been some but we spent the afternoon at Standen.

Again I should have taken the camera as the flowers are lovely – for those of you who dont know it the wow feature is the quarry garden which at this time of the year is dominated by a soft blue-mauve rhododendron (azalea?) as well as the usual predominance of shady greens. It is so SO beautiful. A lovely garden and house at any time of the year it is well worth a visit right now.

I bet your children enjoyed making the bird box, Sarah. Did they manage to finish it ?

The quarry garden sounds lovely! Memories of a bird table :: My ex made one; we all watched from the back window after it had been positioned with bacon fat and breadcrumbs displayed; a huge Woodpigeon landed on it; it rocked, then fell over. End of bird table! :o(

@Mariek - the table is up and functioning - just tits so far who visit all our feeders, but no doubts the pigeons will find it!

@Nariz - that sounds a bit like my mum's cat proof bird table. We came back from a trip out to find our cat fast asleep making the most of the evening sun on top of the bird table, lol!

I've enjoyed your tale of the bird table...good on the kids to get cracking with a great project...and how funny that your mom's cat found the bird table perfect for sunbathing!

I've got a bird table that will go out in the garden very soon. I'm just deciding what colour to paint it and once the garden is sorted out (in May) then the new bird table can be put in situ. Love watching the birds.
