they are Sticki, there's something about them i just love, maybe the movement in the wind possible, thanks :-)

nothing to match them when they sway in the breeze! do you think they are happy in pots? or better in the ground?

19 Jul, 2012

yes that's true, both pots and Ground are fine, but in pots you need more care as they dry out quicker that's all.

There are so many different ones aren't there. They're fascinating when you think about them. I like the way some of them change colour in winter too :o)
I really like the quaking grass, and I grew the Pony Tail one once, but it died on me :o( The only ones I've got now are a Carex, and the black Ophiopogon.

Lovely SL :) Noticed the snail in 5th last pic!!!!!!

I bought the Fireworks Grass, it died in the bubblewrap insulated greenhouse in the winter, covered in Fleece.
Another two covered in sacking outside were fine.

Thanks Everyone :-)

be nice to have a garden like that Pimms..

Yes please Paul i'd love some seed cheers mate :-)

Scottish that's a lovely one, may need a bit of protection if it's in a pot up where you are it's hardy but not sure how much now as the RHS has changed all the hardiness ratings....it should be fine to -10 degrees.

If you would like some seed Hywel of the Quaking grass i'd be happy to send you some in autumn.

Lol Pixi yes i have snails a every where here...

That's a shame Diane mine was in a poor state when it was delivered, i wasn't sure it would survive...

Interesting blog SL. I am not really into grasses, haven't got room for one thing, but I did buy a Blood grass last year, and lost it through the winter even though I put it in my plastic greenhouse. So do you put yours indoors for the winter ?

20 Jul, 2012

:))) sort it out for you

20 Jul, 2012

Thanks Cinders, no i leave all mine out over winter, But i do have them in an alpine type ground mix, below the top 8 inches is full of stones/Sand mix and is very free draining..

Cheers Paul i'll Pm my address to you.

:))))))

Now that was an eye opener for me. I pull a lot of these grasses out.....thinking they are getting in my way.....now if I was to plant them in the gaps between the flowers.....somthing new to think about.

I love your black grass and your Blue Fescue. I tried growing the fiber optic grass from seed last year (germinated but didn't make it to the planting out stage)

Today will be a "searching for grass in my garden day"

21 Jul, 2012

Lol Alex thanks, the fiber optic one loves damp areas, mine is up to it's neck in the pond :-))

Good luck with the search :-)

21 Jul, 2012
