June July Favourites

It’s been a while since I wrote a blog so this is a catch up of what I’ve had since early June. The weather here has been poor, chilly, hard rain, then wind to dry all the pots out, just the usual really.

This Yellow Allium came in a pack of 60 bulbs which I bought in a half price sale. They were marked as Allium Mixed so I didn’t know what to expect. The first ones came tall and white and very beautiful, (photo in Summer to Winter earlier blog). Medium height ones followed and they were pretty white, tinged with pink, then finally these yellow ones came. They were the shortest but brightest and to be honest I was so impressed at how long they all flowered in succession. From May 6th until mid July there was colour of one kind or another. I will buy more this year for sure.

The Peony Sarah Bernhardt did manage to flower, only three of them, and one was ruined by rain, but they were pretty.

The Bacopa and Calibrachoa plug plants which I bought before lockdown and put out into the garden very early, survived wonderfully.

This Camassia was a real surprise, a first timer for us and the label on the bulb packet clearly said Leichtlinii Caerulea and the photo was blue! Not to worry the white is beautiful, I’ll try again for blue next year.

This Rosy Buckler Fern has also been a surprise, it’s far more Autumnal than I expected all through Summer but it goes with the weather…and I love it.

I think Cornflowers are my favourite flower, they are hard to grow in pots, straggly and hate the rain but when they look good, the blue is just SO blue, I love them and am going to try harder next year for more of them. They last forever too, just keep on flowering and of course bees love ’em.

You have beautiful plants, I've never seen a white Camassia before, and I love Cornflowers they always look summery even in the rain :)

Some lovely plants, especially your white Camassia (I must remember that for next year). Do the cornflowers set seed? I love their blue too, and am hoping my one plant will produce seed!

Thank you all for your comments, I think Cornflowers do set seed but I haven't found them popping up in strange places as others do, like Sunflowers or Toadflax which are both very good at coming up all over the place. I have pink white and very dark maroon cornflowers too which are nice but the blue is my favourite.

a pretty selection of flowers. my brother's camassia also were white, so I wonder if they were packaged incorrectly.
I too love cornflowers but only the blue form. I'm the same with Nigella [love in a mist] needs to be the blue one.
I found the yellow allium took over in the spot I had put it so you may find it clumps up well for you too.
I rreally like that fern, very autumnal in colour as you say but a good foil for all the greens in the garden.
