What A Differance A Few Months Make.

Back at the beginning of the year my OH decided that the long border was getting to overgrown the shrubs were here when we moved in twelve years ago and had just been trimmed back regularly. Well he is known for his sudden urges to Hard Prune (HACK!) things down.

So let me set the scene for you. It’s a Saturday morning in January and I’m off to the shops and garden centre.
I’m gone for a couple of hours. OH does not want to come he’s got “Some jobs to do” man speak for “Oh no not the garden centre.” When I get home alls quiet in the house, then I look out of the back door.

Down the bottom of the garden surrounded with a lovely neat pile of clippings…. no Branches OH is chopping the remains of my border into garden bags. I was left standing with my mouth wide open unable to say a word but thinking let’s just say lots!

It was very quiet in our house for several days after that. The only comments I got were “It needed sorting out” and “You said you wanted to put flowers in the garden now you can. You can plant around the stumps and if they grow back well nothing lost then.”

Well I planted seeds and bulbs and tried to make the best of it and do you know what …it’s not that bad after all.

Yesterday a comment was passed. “We could grow allot more vegetables in that border.”…………Ahhhh!!!!!

Well done you for resurrecting the border - perhaps it should be called the border of the Phoenix?
I would not have been pleased and I would do the silent treatment too - then I would go out with his money and buy lots of plants to replace them! I think you better buy online so you can keep an eye on your border at the same time or you will come back to a veg patch??

Sticki~ Your right!More on line shopping Lol! The lawn is his pride and joy, a good candidate for a veg patch could get loads in there.

Yes could be a feature for the beautiful lawn - raised vegetable beds - in the centre!!?

No...I was thinking more along the lines of the grass would make a good path between the beds as in a cross pattern +!

Ah,of course! Much better idea. Quite a narrow path - only just wide enough for the barrow? But it may get muddy so you would need gravel or boards perhaps??

Reclaimed bricks might look better all said and done he would still have the front grass to cut it is all of 8’x10 feet give or take a few!

I think that would be more than sufficient!!

It's looking pretty good Sue, considering the harsh pruning it had received in January! I see you have the bird feeders in there too, so do you find the Niger seed grows like mad? At least my garden will never get that treatment as OH doesn't do any gardening ... lol!
