Ok this is a blog that I meant to do at the end of last season but didn’t get round to it.

But NOW I am and as the season may FINALLY be starting…..here’s how I prepped the polycave in Oct/Nov 2012.

I’ll also be adding a teaser for part 2 at the end folks so pay attention

Ok lets start with a shot of GNuts at the end of September. Note the goats have now gone so big plans for this year and the patch

Ok so its October now and time to over winter the plants. Lets prepare the bed and provide a bit of underfloor heating for winter last, ditch 1

How about some rotted horse manure and all that comfrey…chuck in an apple for good luck why dont we

just add comfrey

bit of horse

bit of rotted straw

bit of water

ditch 2

oops forgot to take a shot of the filling for ditch 2, but used a mix of rotted horse, goat and some very potent chicken

tidy bed

hang on whats this? one of my passion flowers has done a runner!!

have potted up a few of these, free PFs thanks

The last shot of the clems from last year

Lets have a bit of a break with some spare shots from last October, hello Shula

and you

help

also time for a quick bench why not

made this one using just the wood from 2 pallets

and bosh…another

ok time for a bit of tidying n storage

quick newt

quick toad

tidying…bbrrr

you’re not helping

saved some flag iris seeds

a small fushia I bought

sadly the last of the sunny days in October

the changing of the leaves

a passion leaf

this fella was there for a while

3hrs later

and a rainbow at the start of November

storage nearly done…gosh I really do need some more room…if only…

ready for next (this) year

last passion (Nov 3rd)

a couple more in November

quick horses

and a final view before winter set in

.
.

.long intermission for a pesky winter that never went away.
.
.
and its April 2013, and this is how the stored plants are looking

bits of growth, some better than others

benches heaving (yes that is a daff in a bag that I should’ve planted ok)

my mini clem factory pulling through, ok ready for part 2 ?

and here’s my teaser question (queue tense music)
Q- How long…pause…just how long is this piece of string?

answers tomorrow when all will be revealed ; )

wow! thats lots of hard work! good to see all those animals again ~ even if it was only a quick look!!

passionflowers looking really good ~ and did i spot some fruits too? love the shot with the light coming through the leaf,

masses of seeds on that iris ~ looked like a corn on the cob at first!

so the goats have gone ~ hmmmm and that piece of string might be measuring out a plot for something??

5 Apr, 2013

those pics were from Oct/Nov Sticki. Itgot quite damp in there over winter so the passions took a hit. Hoping they will pull through though IF we can have some warmth now

yep those pods were dripping with seeds so why not have a go with those

yes goats have gone to another location so alot of the fence (oh the fence) has been/is being taken down to make way for a nice bit of meadow down to the pond

BUT how longs the string Sticki? ; )

5 Apr, 2013

Great tips for a hotbed Steve! I know I don't make the most of my comfrey. Love the little newt - quite unusual to get them in the kitchen!

5 Apr, 2013

o wow! you've been busy Stevie... I know you for a while now - but didn't think you can work THAT hard, lol. (look at the daffs in a bag, lol)
Ok, ok - some nice pictures there - I am very jealous of your view over the fields...
I know how long is your string!!!!
It's 11 cm on the picture on my screen, lol.

5 Apr, 2013

22 yards ~ length of a cricket pitch?

5 Apr, 2013

oh, maybe it is for a chicken run? or frog racecourse?

5 Apr, 2013

5 Apr, 2013

hmmm - swimming pool - do you think we will have nice and hot summer Sticki?

5 Apr, 2013

great blog...nothing like a polytunnel. i have been hiding in mine all week...

5 Apr, 2013

Im guessing a polytunnel
You have great plants all looking great

5 Apr, 2013

Stergram, had a spate of them in the shower room for some reason!!

Sticki/Kasy...careful...or I might delay part deux ; )

Well agree Sandra but mine is now toooo crammed

Irene well stay tuned (might have to change my plans for the swimming pool)

5 Apr, 2013

oh! no! not a delay!

a hot tub instead? hire it out!! you might make a fortune!

5 Apr, 2013

Brilliant digging there Stevie.......love the blog, feel sad that you have buried a horse, a goat and a chicken in your poly though!! Lol.

5 Apr, 2013

lol yep the horse was tough but preparation is the key : )

5 Apr, 2013

Don't worry GM I expect he will grow more of them! He planted them well so they ought to grow!

5 Apr, 2013

Lots of interest there. Pleased to see your car and watering can are Majorelle Blue. (Karensusan's blog re Tenerife)

6 Apr, 2013

This is better then rocket stove prototype.
I am not very good in chemistry, but did you want to say that that mixture made from rotted straw, horse manure (you have a horse???) and pomfrey is altogether causing some chemical reaction in which the temperature is increased? Or is it just pure soil fertilisation?

6 Apr, 2013

Can't wait for all to be revealed tomorrow. :0))))

6 Apr, 2013

That is very enviromental STT , love the frog , insects and the wonderful dogs , love it too, and so the others especially the fantastic view , Beautiful Blog!!! Wow!!!

6 Apr, 2013

A mix of rotted horse, goat and some very potent chicken - sounds like the contents of a dodgy ready meal to me, eww!

But good preparation, I always seem to get round to doing these things too late ... Though after today's efforts I now have a half-clean greenhouse, so bring on Spring :o)

6 Apr, 2013

Thanks folks

Kat, as the manure breaks down it should give off some heat, seems to have worked to some extent over this winter : )

Sorry Linda, not 'quite' finished yet, just a bit more to go so hopeful have it done by tomorrow

6 Apr, 2013

Sorry, just noted the water butt is Majorelle blue too.

6 Apr, 2013

Lots of work gone on there Steve, the clem look to be coming on a treat.
The piece of string I would guess is twice as long as half.

7 Apr, 2013

Bloggete? More like a blogathon!
Glad all is looking so good. Preparing for a visit!!

BTW Sticki and STT, until the end of April Westonbirt has half price entry fee!

I am going to plant your clems in a week or so Stevie.

Now how long is that string?

7 Apr, 2013

Ooooh half price? That's a bargain!

7 Apr, 2013

oops, not quite finished, just need a bit of wood, tomorrow promise ; )

half price fro OAPs Sticki? lol

7 Apr, 2013

Sure is! And they just revamped the restaurant too! Just need a few bluebells!.....which I reckon may be late this year.

7 Apr, 2013

A bit of wood? Pallet size?

I'm not commenting Stevie!!

Re-vamp? Should we check it out lulu?

7 Apr, 2013

I think we should Sticki!

7 Apr, 2013

Good plan! Before the end of April then?

7 Apr, 2013

I think we need to check the poly tunnel too!

7 Apr, 2013

I think so too!

8 Apr, 2013

ok ok just sorting my pics now

8 Apr, 2013

A bacon sarnie party!

8 Apr, 2013

Still waiting!

8 Apr, 2013

The string, Stevie...you didn't say if you wanted it sub-atomically measured or not. Lol.
Great blog!

8 Apr, 2013

Very interesting and informative blog, no idea how long the string is.......but I am sure I shall find out....!!

9 Apr, 2013

Have tried to Goypedia both blogs, BUT !! to no avail. :) sorry Stevie.

11 Apr, 2013

See next blog Dotty, Does the goypedia have a polytunnel categorie GM? not sure, never mind.

Update, was weeding my overwintered pots yesterday, moved the trays and the soil underneath looks nice indeed

11 Apr, 2013

Oh they do Stevie, that's why I nominated you. :(

11 Apr, 2013

I phenominated you too!

11 Apr, 2013

It's not fair is it Lou? Some folk get their photos and blogs put on Goypedia straight away, now these Poly blogs are great and deserve being goypediad, but it is not happening :(

11 Apr, 2013

GM just had a look at this page
http://www.growsonyou.com/editor_tool/edited_pages
I see there is a polytunnel category thats done by David, not sure I've seen him on here for a while so he'll get that when/if he comes on, no bother

11 Apr, 2013

Ah. great Stevie....hope so. I haven't seen David either he writes great blogs too. Maybe I will PM. him. (couldn't get anything with your editor link by the way??)

11 Apr, 2013

Any update on the nomination?

15 Apr, 2013

No idea Mouldy, happy to help if editors not on much, you could have a few yourself

15 Apr, 2013

can you be nominated for bacon sarnies stevie?

15 Apr, 2013

I certainly can Sticki ; ) but sometimes a sausage sandwich suits the mood better

15 Apr, 2013

Like the others, tried to nominate a couple of your blogs, but drew a blank, mate.
Will keep trying.
Quorn saussie with mustard or bacon sarnies (called pieces up here) with tom sauce. ;-9
Can't beat 'em!

15 Apr, 2013

ok, better nominate you for sarnies in general??

15 Apr, 2013

So what happens when the person who maintains a particular Goypedia page doesn't come on here anymore, do nominations just vanish into a void?? I was looking at a few other pages recently and noticed that nothing had been added to them for quite a while, seems a shame :o(

16 Apr, 2013

EX!!!, Sticki. Lol.
Pain of death, 'member? ;-)

16 Apr, 2013

eh?

16 Apr, 2013

Mouldy exits the poly...Lol.

16 Apr, 2013

;-)) just so long as you haven't taken all the food and plants with you!!

16 Apr, 2013

How could you suggest such a thing?
What, these things, that sort of 'fell' into my pockets?
Perish the thought! Lol.

20 Apr, 2013

Hmmmm, specially adapted pockets that have food magnets in them?

20 Apr, 2013

Nah, just poacher's pockets. Lol.

20 Apr, 2013

A quorn man eh! I quite like it too!
Now everyone, before you leave the building..empty your pockets!

20 Apr, 2013

Which reminds me of a cute story. A few years ago my little 10 year old cousin came to dinner late....he had a ferret in his pocket...for real, I can't say what he had in his other pocket!

20 Apr, 2013

Can't or won't, Lulu?
I'm intrigued. Lol.
