Temptation at the plant sale

Thank you Sandra for telling me about the plant sale at Narberth. I was so keen I went last week by mistake, but got there on the right day this time.
I went armed with £15 and a wish list. High on the list (and free!) was to find Sandra – easy to do because her lovely aeoniums were there enjoying the sun. Its so nice to meet other GOYers, as there aren’t many round here.

I found a Bowles Mauve, which you’ve all said is so good, and a lovely Thalictrum – great as I had to leave my old one in Stafford. Then, temptation – a beautiful blue anemone nemorosa (the pic doesn’t do it justice)and an erythonium pagoda, wanted for a long time. I didn’t find a pink corydalis, but I did get a blue one called Tory MP, apparently because its true blue and goes on a long time!
I tried putting them all together to save you having to trawl through a lot of pics but sorry it didn’t come out very well.

Then into the conservatory for a rest – this La Campanella came through the winter well and got going early.

This little ginger plant belongs to a house up the road, but spends all her time with us, just going home for meals – great arrangement eh?

Super choices. I've been on the look out for a blue anemone like that and you've just reminded me, thank you.
Best to go only what you are willing to spend. I learnt the hard way the other week at the SRGC sale. I can't say I wasn't warned, I was...lol!

I'm not sure I could be so self controlled as to have a spending limit!lol Great choices, love the blue anemone, and that ginger cat is very cute.

Glad you had a lovely day,and nice for you to meet Sandra,,we get everywhere, you know..! Lol..how self restrained you were,Sue..to stick to your budget.well done..love your Anemone too,and the little ginger number :o).

It wasn't that difficult to stick to the budget - I got £15 from the cashpoint and they don't take cards at plant sales! Not saying I wasn't tempted though, especially by a small double philadelphus that only gets to 4 feet high. Perhaps another time...I didn't have anywhere to put it really. Thank you Sheila and Karen.
The anemone - yes, I've wanted one for years and its the first time I've seen one for sale, so it would have to have been that even if nothing else! I just sat and looked at it this afternoon - put in dappled shade and the wind was blowing the flowers in and out of the sunshine...Hope you find one soon Scottish. Glad you like Mrs P, Sandra Louisa and Irene!

I can vouch for that corydalis stera. I've had it for six years now, and it's going from strength to strength

Great Andrew. What soil and position have you got it in? I have a flexuosa in a place that's shaded in the morning, but I would really like one in a south facing bed - don't want to risk its life though.

It's in part shade and gets the morning sun

I think perhaps it'd be better not to risk it in the south bed then. But it would be fully shaded there by early July because there would be fuchsias behind and in front.- what do you think?

4 May, 2013

That's wonderful. I'm pleased you got some nice plants, and met Sandra. She's nice too :o)
I like your ginger friend :o)

Stera - will the fuchsias stop you seeing it when it's in flower? And you don't want to let it get swamped

5 May, 2013

No - I think it will have finished before they have grown up- as far as I remember they disappear completely by the second half of summer or or have I remembered wrong? Anyway I will leave a Flexuosa there for now and see what happens - it can always be moved if necessary as it's not very deep rooted.
Hywel, yes it was good to meet Sandra. She mentioned that she had met you - and we had a joint admiration session of Bella. Glad you like Mrs P. she loves going into things and yesterday she went up the chimney. What a mess. Her real name is RoRo - we can't call her that and can't seem to settle on a good name, so she is still Mrs Pussycat, Mrs for short.
