Seedling Imposter.

In my blog, Seed time – Hybridizing Iris, I posted a photo of an Iris seedling which germinated in July. Pictured below.
It is, however a cuckoo in the nest! A seed of gladiolus which flew in from an adjacent pot. The rest of the Gladiolus are just germinating.
Also, yesterday, 13 September, these two seedlings appeared. The real McCoy! The difference is obvious, mini Iris.
The moral of the story, put your glasses on when pricking out!!!!

Growing from collected seed is such fun, you never know what will turn up, or if that carefully tended seedling will turn out to be a weed!

I usually let them germinate naturally. This year I put the Iris pots in the fridge to cold stratify. That was why I was so surprised and excited to have one germinate as they usually pop up in spring of the following year.
Thank pamg, but the fun is in different colours, not rogue plants. At least they were both monocots!

What? Put the pots in the fridge or put his specs on?
Ps have now got 6 seedlings of Immortality X Chantilly out of a pod of about 40 seeds, and 1 of Interesting Expression X Prince Charming.
