A bit of sun today

Well a nice sunny day to sit between the driving rain of yesterday and the promised rain of tomorrow. I had a quick walk around the garden and I have been really pleased with the display of Asters.

This is a tall [6ft] one Aster ‘Calliope’, it has dark stems too.

This mid mauve one is a good 4-5ft but I cant find its label.

These do have names but cant remember them and I will need to look in my plant profiles.

Although not an Aster this Boltonia asteroids is flowering now and in the dusk it has a lovely ‘glow’ to it.

clambering through the yew hedge in the front garden is this beautiful clematis. C. rehderiana

This geranium seeded from purple haze flowering with Sedum ‘Autumn joy’

In the back garden one of my favourite genera is strutting its stuff: the cyclamen. Under the beech tree there were originally 5 pink plants. there are now white ones so they have arisen from their own genetics.

These purple ones all came from just one plant but it has been allowed to self seed in the pot. the leaf is a nice shape too.

This is a seedling from ? I do have C Maurice Dryden but that is C coum and C pseudibericum so not sure. It has a lovely long ‘thin’ flower.

There is a lovely clump of Nerines against a sunny wall, getting better every year.

This is a new plant for me Gladiolus dalenii ex Boone, I love the flower shape and the soft apricot shades.

Next to the beech hedge there are these fully hardy Impatiens omeiana with there soft yellow flowers and variegated leaves.

The plant storage area in front of the greenhouse is getting tidied up and many plants are in the greenhouse ready for sorting tomorrow.

As I moved plants out of the cold frame I came across this friendly critter. Very few slugs at the moment. no wonder he is so healthy looking.

Lets hope for some nicer weather later in the week.

Love the colours of your asters. Today the weather on our side of the Humber is very wet and rainy, I think we have had enough now ☔️

Those Nerines are gorgeous, I planted some but I think they're waiting til next year to grow properly, they have leaves but no flowers yet.

it is very wet on this side of the Humber too Marjorie. The motor bike ride we had organised to Grosmont has been cancelled due to the atrocious weather.

The Nerines took several years to flower. the leaves emerge in the spring and I feed them then.

But I have been in the greenhouse most of the day sorting out the tomato plants. I have a large pan on making tomato soup and 2 trays one of red ones , not quite ripe and a second tray of green ones waiting to ripen.
I also checked the lilies and re-potted them. I just have to sort it out ready for cleaning later in the year.

Lovely Asters, like the dark stems on Calliope, but rather tall. Weather here in the South atrocious on the 12th, rain, rain, rain.
