hi guys today i decided i was fed up with not doing my garden so decided to take a trip to the GC and get some bird seed and new feeders as i only have a couple and my birds are so greedy and cant keep up with them lol
anyway while there i looked around at the plants of which i could have bought most of them but a bit strapped at the moment being off work, so being kind and not wanted to spend to much of baz`s hard earned cash i was carefull,
so i got these for my bad area which some of you will remember, i have to be carefull what i choose because of sycamore tree roots but an trying to make the most of what i have, its a mound of earth with lots of roots and decided to go for a rockery look with large slates and loose stone as you may have seen in previous blogs,

so above are chamaecyparis pisifera baby blue which can grow to 90cm in 10 years so slow growing and can always move it, then the carex brunnea jenneke which is a grass plant which will grow about 40cm, i like these because they give a bit of movement and colour. so i got 2 of each plant

sorry i named them the wrong way round, but couldnt remember in what order i posted pics, then i got 2 new feeders one for thistle seed or niger seed and a bigger small bird feeder to hold more, i got some wormy things for mr robin but where do you put it as the other birds and naughty pigeons get it all before mr robin, any sugestions guys

so there`s the new feeders and the old ones are in the trees so the pigeons cant get to them and i know you have seen my visitors but i like them so much im showing you again sorry lol

and you could forget this little cheeky chap

so thats my time in the garden today, i was good and didnt over do things but i feel alot better for being out there, its a lovely sunny day here in blackpool to so even better, thanx for looking guys :o))

Good choice of plants Sandra, not seen the dwarf blue conifer before, only it's big brother! Glad to see you're out and about but not so glad you're hogging the sun up there. lol. Lovely to see your birds again, you should get even more now with the new feeders.

The new plants and feeders all look great Sandra. I think you need to put your feet up now :-)

21 Oct, 2009

You've made some good purchases today, and put careful thought into planting into that area of your garden.

It's all looking good.
Does Angelina like the new design ? Lol.

lilly, like Sandra said its lovely up here, pleased your feeling better as for your worms, it does'nt matter what i do the starlings eat them so quick no other birds get a chance, so i now just put them in my fat cakes i make at least the others get a chance at them, as your feeling better, some more news, today i have a letter from Thompson & Morgan about Buddleja Buzz, it says due to crop failure they have to delay sending out the plants and they are now growing a new crop and they will be with us March 2010, abit cheesed off to be honest, but then thought at least by the time they come the worse of the bad weather will be gone, and we dont have to worry about looking after them through the winter.xx

Well done Sandra great choice of plants and feeders, Baz will be pleased you took it carefully with his money and youself!. Im havinyg big Problems with Pigeons too 15 in the gang and I have had to stop putting food on the bird table as none of the others birds stand a chance. I feed my doves nuts in a cocoanut shell but have to stand on guard if the pigees swoop , I dash out and bring the nuts in, so dont think its worth buying any meal worms at the moment.

hi lily and thanks, i didnt know you could get the blue conifer either so grabbed a couple quick lol , not a bad price at £2.99 each
dont worry dawn my feet are up before baz gets home :o) i did enjoy myself though ssshhhhh.
thanx Terra i tried to place them well but even though we do that still end up changes them at some point, angelina has been lazy today and in bed :o) glad conker is doing well
cheers carol hasnt it been beautifull here, well the sun shines on the ritchious has they say(spellcheck) lolno probs about the buzz they will arrive when they do and like you say we dont have to worry about winter :o)
carole(PP) arent they a pest at the moment, the pigeons, guess winter and we get them all, but my doves i watch them like you and make sure they are ok, baz doesnt need to kknow about the little shopping spree ok heheh :o)

The good thing is that you are back up and about, albeit, in small steps - which is the right way! Glad you're feeling well enough to 'want to' do it.

Great plants and nice pics. Lucky old birds geting more feeders. I want to replace mine with stronger metal ones when the plastic ones go but not a priority at the mo.

Sunny here...this morning and early afternoon but just back from visiting mum in hospital and it chucking it down. So much for getting out garden and hoovering up leaves and digging some holes toplant the 2 lavenders I have!!

Ah well, there's always tomorrow!!

Nice blog San

glad your feeling a bit stronger San, but don't overdo it! The plants look great. very natural.....a good choice. We have the same problem with the "wormy" things, we put them down in a tray feeder on the path, and everybody else seems to get them first :o)

21 Oct, 2009

thanks Dan i enjoyed the trip to GC and choosing a couple of new plants and best of all being in the garden :o)
sorry your mum in hospital hope she`s going to be ok.
hope you get a good day in the garden tomoz to, i would like the metal feeders but a bit expensive arent they so these will do the job

cheers Ali glad you liked the blog and ive been out half a dozen times moving the flat ground feeder but the starlings find it where ever it is lol, but will get out early tomoz for mr robin , he`s up before the starlings lol, the things we do hey heheh

21 Oct, 2009

Enjoyed your blog San, I hope you find somewhere for the wormy things! Lol :~)))

21 Oct, 2009

lol ian and thanx, ive moved the dish thinking i had hid it in the tree, wedged it in and thought it would be safe,,, NOT,, i walked back to house and turned to see every starling in staining flapping about in the tree hehehh, back to the drawing board :o))

21 Oct, 2009

Oh dear San, I really don't know where to put it then. Lol

21 Oct, 2009

i wont be beaten ian, i will find a way lol, hows your day?

21 Oct, 2009

Well San when you find a way let me know, as no matter what i do the starlings, are just so greedy are'nt they. plus all the mess they make, i've forever got my marigolds on cleaning all the feeders.

21 Oct, 2009

Good ! I'm glad you were able to make the most of the sunshine. It will have done you the power of good as you can probably feel. I liked your Carex . They look great and will form lovely clumps.

21 Oct, 2009

21 Oct, 2009

no probs ian i did notice you had been very busy today lol

21 Oct, 2009

Lol, :~)))

21 Oct, 2009

Lovely blog, San! I bought wormy food for my robin, but I think I'll put it in a dish in the shed when I'm around, as he's the only one who goes in there!

21 Oct, 2009

thanx mari,, thats a great idea, i could try it but havent seen robin go in there yet but worth a try :o)

22 Oct, 2009

Loved your pics Sandra, pleased you are getting out and about, also like your choice of plants and when they fill out a bit more you `ll probably stop thinking of that area as a problem, have you put any spring flowering bulbs there?. I`ve added extra feeders in my garden as well, gradually working up the garden nearer to the house for winter, pleased to say the finches have already found one,as to the starlings and pigeons they have me beat as well, Lol.....

22 Oct, 2009

glad you liked them lincs, ive thought of moving my bird staion closer to house but didnt want to risk loosing the birds, do they not mind change? maybe i should move it a foot at a time , be sneaky lol

22 Oct, 2009

I will admit the other feeders are still in place San so they have extra, lol. I buy the food online as its cheaper to buy in bulk.......

22 Oct, 2009

thats a good idea its getting so expensive at the GC for seed, but i do try to get it from carboot sale when i can its cheaper there, ive got extra feeders to

22 Oct, 2009

Hi San...I've heard it said that as robins can be braver & more tame than other birds you can put their food in a dish much nearer the house & they will venture closer while others won't. Don't know if this works as we have cats so a bit silly to try it here! Hope you're feeling much better.x

22 Oct, 2009

think i will try that fluff, i use to put things close for my blackbirds till the pigeons found it grrr, im doing really well better each day :o))

22 Oct, 2009

That's good honey...a day at a time.
We throw bacon fat & breadcrumbs on top of the shed roof right by the back door & no birdies other than the robin & crows take them...the crows aren't interested in the small stuff so the robins get a full tummy! The moggies can't creep up on them on the roof as they have to jump up first & the robins fly away!

22 Oct, 2009

Good idea, Fluff! I got my mealworms in the pound shop! It sells the Bill Oddie bird foods!

22 Oct, 2009

Oh dear...wonder if he knows if they are selling them for a pound??!! LOL!

22 Oct, 2009

Exactly! But me & my birdies are happy! :~)))

22 Oct, 2009

i put all sorts out for the birds, on the ground and feeder, im lucky with the none chasing angelina pussy cat fluff lol
thats a good price mari as they are so expensive, are they good size tub, i payed almost £4 this time but quite big tub mari, ;o) happy birdy`s, is all that matters

22 Oct, 2009

Bill Oddies is even pricey at Wilkinsons so I'd get to the pound shop San...see you there!!

22 Oct, 2009

lol will do fluff

22 Oct, 2009

No, theyre not big, in packets, but that was the mealworm feed!

22 Oct, 2009

i get the tubs of dried worms, alot in but dont like to waste them on starlings and pigeons mari, i get them for the robin because they dont always get to see any of the seed,

22 Oct, 2009

At £4, that's better value than the poundshop!

22 Oct, 2009

i will check it out and compare the weight and price mari, or you let me know the weight and will check tomorrow as mine in shed

22 Oct, 2009

It's a mix of (finely chopped) maize, pinhead oatmeal, peanut & mealworms, & there's 350g of it!

22 Oct, 2009

ok thats the differance mari mine just mealworms, sounds similar to other i get which was £3.99 from GC so yours good value

22 Oct, 2009

That's good to know! Ta! There are loads to choose from, so I went for the one I thought would offer a more filling meal!

22 Oct, 2009

yes whatsin yours is good mari for all birds, also crushed peanuts always when babies are about from spring so they dont choke on full peanuts, off to bed now so sleep well mari, have a good day tomoz :o)x

22 Oct, 2009

You too, sweetie! Night!

22 Oct, 2009

Wilkos have their own brand and i find the birds love it, think BB gets his bird food from wilkos

23 Oct, 2009

to be honest carol i get it from where i am on the day, unless i go to carboot them stock up cause its so cheap there, dont often go to town these days so by the time ive paid car parking i may as well get it closer,

23 Oct, 2009

I agree with you on that one, not so bad for me as i've got my free buspass.

23 Oct, 2009

mind you i dont mind carol its what i enjoy doing, so cant put a price on that :o)

23 Oct, 2009

Thats another one i agree with you :o)))
