Part two of the work done at the new garden.

Perhaps I should carry on with the arbour corner, and go on from there ! We placed both arbour seats where we wanted them and basically worked around them. While I was digging out the twitch in the back border, which I’ll show later, I kept digging up bricks. Some were under the shrubs and others were just under the soil. Haven’t a clue why they were there, but as they were nice bricks, decided to use them ! Mind you, I didn’t realise how heavy they were !

Some of them were as big as 4 bricks together and were heavy, but they looked so nice when the wall was formed.
Others were much smaller and there were dozens of these! I’ve only just used all of these up !

Once this wall was built , I then had to decide how to make the corner look nice. I wanted plenty of pots there and I borrowed an idea from Karen Susan ,when she made her Heuchera corner. I used some large bricks and some smaller ones making steps The first shrub which went in the far corner was the pieris as it will do well there, out of the cold easterly winds and getting the sun! Then I had a Cornus and Sambucus which started to fill the corner. I had quite a lot of grasses, originally from Libet again and hostas which came from the bog garden at Willow Cottage. As the corner started coming together, I added more and more and changed it around a bit until I was satisfied. This happened over several weeks as I kept changing my mind! I had brought as much as I could from the last garden, anything that would dig up , came ! I have now included my two white camelias , plus a little table painted green with a large Heuchera on it. The solar bird bath finishes it off !

Begonias went in my cone baskets at the entrance to this corner.

the last thing to do was to put large pots of Clematis at each side of the arbour seat, and am pleased to say that all the clematis and climbing roses successfully moved and didn’t lose any of them !

More again tomorrow !

It looks like you have been busy with the paint brush too. You are putting us all to shame with all your hard work. The whole plot has been transformed. I do like walls and recycling the bricks in this way is sheer genius. WOW.

You have worked hard and your garden looks beautiful, completely transformed. I love the area around your arbour seat.

How clever a dry stone wall made from recycled bricks, you have done good there Rose. What a brilliant job and a great use of those bricks. It all looks very pretty and it will be so easy for you to manage - hope your neighbours are being kind too. It must be nice for you to be able to relax in your garden and know that there are no nasty surprises around the corner for you so to speak. Have a great time and try and relax in your new garden - hope o.h. is doing ok too, best wishes to you both.

Hello Scottish, apparently the neighbours call me "the lady who likes to dig !" because I spent hours in the front garden battling with the heavy clay !
Thanks Louisa and Drc726 for your comments.
Thanks Mel, fancy finding all these lovely bricks ! I can't believe some one had buried them !
Thanks Karen, you could originally see the steps, but eventually all the plants hid them. I only did it to create different levels ! And no...you're not thick ! Lol.
Thanks Scotsgran. The fence my hubby painted on his good days, but we were very lucky with the side fence as it was put up while we were away and the neighbours painted our side as well ! I bet there's not many neighbours like that ! We decided between us on the green as I think it suits the garden and plants better.
Thanks Jaykaty for your lovely comments.
Hello again Barbara. Its been so nice to find that everyone around here are all lovely people. We had 14 years of living amongst those unmentionables that we forgot that nice people existed ( with the exception of you goyers , of course !) Yes my hubby is doing great , thanks. He has finally settled down and is quite content.
Thanks Sue, I can't tell you what a big difference to our lives it has made moving here. It was a gamble, but its cerainly paid off !
Thanks Chris, I got it done in the end, didn't I ! The blog I mean ! Hahaa! I keep having to pinch myself ! Its a long time since we have been so relaxed and happy ! x

Ditto! You both deserve it ;-)

13 Sep, 2013

Wonderful ! You're working hard, and it can only get better :o)

Rose, if I put the kettle on, can you pop round & do another 'miracle-makeover' on my garden? ;-)
What a monumental achievement in such a short space of time!
I'm proud of you!!!

Thank you so much, Karen, Mel and Hywel. Ooh, I'm getting all emotional now !
Well, thank you kind sir ! I've been looking in at your garden, Mouldy and I don't think you need my help! Yours seems to be coming along nicely !

I really enjoyed your last 2 blogs, seeing what you have done with something pretty dreary. What a difference you have made in those few months. It must feel so strange coming from somewhere with all that space around you.
You have given me the inspiration needed for my own tiny bit of a plot which we got to go with our new house.
We moved in the same time you did but our garden will have o wait untill spring for a makeover, too busy making the house liveable in at the moment.
Your blog made me itch to get out there and start again, thank you.

14 Sep, 2013

Well, Resi, you've got all winter, if we have some dry sunny days , even if its cold ! But, on the other hand , it will give you time to study the garden and plan it in the warmth of your new home. I hope you will be as happy in yours as we are in ours. Thank you also.

15 Sep, 2013

It was, 'til I began looking for Autumn & Winter plants.
Jasmine.
That's all B&Q have on offer!
A huge superstore & only one plant in stock. I was speechless.
Now it's a traipse to find a garden centre.
Why did I take up gardening? Lol.

15 Sep, 2013

You should live here , then Mouldy, in Lincolnshire. There's loads of nurseries and garden centres to choose from !
But you know you love it , don't you !

16 Sep, 2013

So help me, I do love it, Rose! Lol.
Nurseries?
Good thinking, Batwoman! ;-)

17 Sep, 2013

My goodness Rose ... there's more surprises in this blog ... I wonder why all those lovely bricks were buried in the first place though! So pleased you have lovely neighbours ... makes for a pleasant life ... :o)

17 Sep, 2013

Maybe an old Anderson?
They're definately not 'modern' bricks, that's for sure.

18 Sep, 2013

I think they were just waiting for me to find them, Shirley! Hahaa!
Thats a good idea. Mouldy !

18 Sep, 2013

You should have used them to build a fortress, so the rozzers can't capture you for the G.C thievery.
S'okay, I won't 'grass' you! Lol.

18 Sep, 2013

At last,I have got round to seeing part two,Rose :o) I guess it doesn't matter which way round we see your lovely garden really..
I love all the planting around your Arbour..the Pieris will do well there..It's great that you managed to bring such a lot with you from willow cottage..that other lot would have probably nicked them anyway! I brought my Pieris with me as well, and almost 12 years on,they still going strong..and both had a serious prune this year, but looking good again....Right,off to look at part 3 now ..this is just gorgeous :o)

18 Sep, 2013

Oh, Mouldy, it was my first offence, honest !!!
Thanks Sandra, you're right there, they would ! Apparently I have been told that someone even got in and broke up the cement around the big lamp post and took that ! Well, they are welcome to any of it now ! We are well out of it!
I'm pleased you enjoyed seeing our garden. Perhaps one day , you will see it for real !

18 Sep, 2013

Thieving b......ers ! I hope they dropped it on their toes :o)
I hope we do see your lovely garden one day, that would be a real pleasure :o) x
