Join us in our morning walk.

There is no better start to the day ( hubbies words) than walking round the garden first thing in the morning , smelling the roses and listening to the birds , so i’d like you to join us in our walk. I thought we’d startfrom the back entrance going past the small fruit area and the lilies.

walking on towards the hedge and looking down to the pond.

We will now turn right passing a philadelphus lemonoii which if I could bottle this perfume I would
On the left we are coming up to iceburg ( one of my favourites) and another philadelphus which has definitely excelled itself this year. Do you think the really cold winter had anything to do with it?

Heading towards the sitting area, shall we have a rest! “sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just thinks” One of the late Geoff Hamiltons favourite sayings. Bless him.

We’ll carry on shall we? Turning left past our little summer house on to the garden where " buphthalmum salicifolium"grows in abundance (can’t pronounce it but just love it. It will flower all through the summer whatever the position or weather.

Mickey one of our cats thinks he will join us. Carrying on through this part of the garden are various shrubs and perrenials.

Here is the last rhody to flower

Crossing the path to the next border we shall pause to look up at L.D. Braithwaite rose which is giving us a good show this year

You can see the woodland garden as we walk on..

but we wont go in as there is much more to see . Hope your’e still with us! To the left is “the Times” rose which never lets us down.

and to the right is our bog garden with astilbes ,aruncus and irise’s..

Walking up the garden we see the ballerina ..

nd to the right in the cottage garden is roses Wendy Cussons,Gertrude Jekyll and dear old Geoff hamilton

continuing through the archway with a cutting from the shrub rose Graham Thomas which i have trained as a climber and on the right are 2 clematises. One is Niobe which after I had moved it over 3years ago to a better position because it didn’t seem to grow , it disappeared until this year ,It’s amazing isn’t it (nature)! The other i got from our local nursery very cheaply as it wasn’t named. Any ideas ?

I think we’ll have a quick look at the larger pond now..

forgot to mention , the lovely geese were a present from our son and daughter in law.We are going through the old wooden pergola back into the little side garden and nearly to the end of our walk ( thank goodness your’e saying!)To the left is the yellow sedum .( it started off as one and over the years kept splitting it.

On the right in the little annual garden is a lovely clematis which has moved house with us twice previously and still flowers in abundance. It must be at least 16 years old now.

Now to my favourite of all my roses , the star of the show, it just keeps getting better and better no matter what the weather throws at it. Bonica.

and here is our Minnie fast asleep as usual!

Gleditsia sunrise which gives a goog back drop to this garden and is a lovely little tree, which does’t get too big.We will now have a quick look at the working part of the garden where more plants are waiting to go out and our storeroom which hubby ( in his well days ) built from an old gazebo and transformed it into this useful little building

Now if there any of you left and you haven’t fell asleep along the way I think its time for a cuppa! Thankyou for joining us on our walk .I hope you enjoyed it.

I am tired out now, but it was well worth the walk, tea is lovely thank you. Enjoyed myself so so much, look forward to your next blog, thanks Rosie for inviting me to your garden viewing it has been really worth the effort - off to get myself ready for my cricket teas this weekend now, that was the break I needed to get me kick started. Thank you once more. Hope the sun keeps shining on you and your garden.

Really enjoyed the walk through your garden, especially the roses. Bonica looks like one to consider for the future, should I find a space in my little garden.

Your hubby's right, a walk through the garden is just the thing first thing in the morning! Thank you for sharing.

well i can certainly see why you would want to walk round this garden, first thing in the morning; its lovely! those astilbes are doing so well but its that white rhodedendron is just gorgeous.

Yes I enjoyed it very much thank you :) It's a lovely garden you've got there, and I really like that little seating place :o)) Very nice indeed !

Hello again Rose, back from hols? Hasn't the garden filled out well! Such a lot of growth compared to the garden at the start of your blogs? It's gorgeous! Your hubby was very handy at building sheds when he was capable, they're always really useful...if you don't keep filling them up! The Gleditsia is a beautiful tree, I can't grow it here, the one I did have, just blew to bits in a storm one night! Their branches are very brittle, so I'm very jealous of yours... it's magnificent! I see a lot of Dahlias in pots on your aluminium table, are they next on the agenda for planting out, or are you keeping them in pots? Sorry for being nosy, but your garden is very interesting, and I've lots to ask! Last question, does your Niobe clematis always flower so early? Mine doesn't start until mid August! :0) Lovely blog Rose!

Loved walking around your garden ... so much to see and so many lovely different areas. : o )

Thankyou again all of you. I am hoping to put all my roses up soon. By the way Libet I tend to get loads of gaps in the borders now especially where all the blue geraniums as i cut them all back . It's also useful to have some backup plants incase of any problems that might occur. We are having alot of problems with baby foxes digging every thing up at the moment.

26 Jun, 2011

Oh no! Not foxes! That's a bit of a nightmare! The geraniums grow back though, don't they? The bare patches are a pain to look at, but it's only us that see them, other people don't notice gaps at all! I can see that's why you would have the dahlias in the pots, they would be very nice to drop in to fill a space! Hope the foxes grow up and move away soon!

The foxes seem to stay on the site even when they are grown up libet and as the geraniums don't flower again i cut them hard back as the leaves on this one are not exactly pretty. Hubby thinks i'm too particular.By the way your garden is amazing . Ilove the last lot of pics.
