You do not say if it is a newly planted tree or potted or in the ground. I would add that, as this tree matures it can sent out runners many feet long that pop up in lawns and borders and run under paths and neighbours fences. So maybe, as it is not a happy tree, to discard it, and plant a less intrusive tree or shrub.

Or do you mean staghorn fern, Platycerium bifurcatum?
