Not an expert but I would say creosote is to preserve dead wood not living. I would think abetter way would be todrill vertical holes in the stump and fill with crosot.

bang in a few copper nails as well , as Bobski2 says drilling holes and pouring in would be better ,I used the chain saw tip to cut into the stump on occasions , never used creosote although pretty sure that would do it.

you can get a chemical or powder i think called root kill which is supposed to work for this,im having the same problem with a sycamore stump and thats what i was adviced

Old fashioned Creosote would kill a tree this way, but the modern equivalent will not. The old stuff was nasty in that is could cause cancer. Better as said to use Root out or similar.

creasote is a praservative that will kill plants but it will preserve rather than loose the stump .get in touch with the forestry commission or a tree surgeon perhaps.

Drill into the stump and apply SBK neat into the holes, cover with something and leave to work. Or you could use Rootout

SBK, get in the garden centre, it's a liquid and its a brushwood killer, specially for woody plants/trunks, etc. It'll kill everything else as well though, so be careful when you use it.
