Hi folks, this is not really a gardening question just cleaning up after I come in from the garden! Can any of you please help me? I have a home tec silver light'n'easy floor steam cleaner model HT 824 I have plugged it in filled the reservoir and switched on. Red light comes on and 30 seconds blue light comes on. When I then switch the foot peddle on it starts to hum but no steam. I have not instructions with it. Does anyone know how to activate the steam. This mucky weatehr I need to clean my floor!!!! and I cannot find any one else to help me.

have you looked online for the instructions? If you Google the model, you might find they're available on line.

Done that, no success, but thanks anyway.

It seems to be a common complaint. The company say it is an air block. They recommend that you fill it with water and turn it upside down to release the trapped air, and that you store it upside down. The customers say that just ends up with water everywhere.

Go to Amazon UK search for steam cleaners, then search your model and read the customer reviews. there are 3 of them.

Apparently you need to blow hard down the funnel to clear any blockages. This seems to be a bit of a built-in problem with this model. Is this the first time you have tried using it?
P.S. I recommend you switch it off and drain it first!

Many thanks folks, I knew my Goy pals would come up with an answer. I have fiddled and fiddled with it, a little steam did eventually come out so the air lock sounds about right.

It looks as though the weather is turning a little dryer, so hopefully I can get back out in that garden and prune prune prune, and not worry too much about the cleaning. Happy gardening all.
