how can i start a lawn?

small patch at rear was paved for about 15 years attempted to turf it poor result. turned it over and applied lawn seed poor result.patch holds water and has very little sun! can anyone advise please

There is a grass seed for shady areas - but I think you are on a loser if the patch is really soggy all the time. One last try?
