Why do the leaves on my honeysuckle plant go mouldy and drop off in summer?

the plant is growing up a wall which only receives good light at the top of it. In spring it grows well and bushy at the top but then suddenly the leaves start to go mouldy.

Is it a black sticky mould? Mine did the same thing one year and it turned out to have an aphid infestation, last year I sprayed it with organic bug spray at the first sign of aphids and it stayed healthy.
