Whats the best way to to preparesoil to transplant a 5 year old acer about 5 feet tall?

A lot of hard work roselover :o)
dig out as much of the root stock as possible and some of the surrounding soil. mix in lots of leaf mould/well rotted manure to recondition the soil. I often use Blood fish & bone too as it is a very good slow release fertilizer.
