Summer prune wisteria, is it too late now?

Answers

Hopefully not - I'll be doing one this week that should have been done at beginning of August. I'm sure it'll be fine, it's not that late.

I have just done mine today, I have 3 growing up fences, they have been there 3 years and have never flowered so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get some next year

Terrible isn't it - I've had the heating on 2 nights running and am even thinking about getting that thicker duvet out, for goodness' sake, and it's still August...

I was going to ask if you'd experienced a summer like this before bamboo. Then i read today in a paper that the mean UK temp from June to now is something around 15c(must be including night temps). Coldest for around three decades i think it said. Funny you say that, had the thicker duvet out this week aswell!

Back onto the Wisteria Bamboo, i have had a look at the plant which i only bought this year but it is a good size - over 6 foot. The leader has taken off, and i am training it onto wire that's attached to the house over our patio doors, but the stems growing from the main leader have so far only developed 3-4 (i think leaf) bud's.(I can take some pics if it helps)

There doesn't seem that much to prune,so do you think i should leave un-till winter and then follow the winter pruning advise and cut back to 2-3 buds or should i just leave pruning completely untill next summer.

I have never pruned wisteria before so thanks for your patience and please let me know if i'm not thinking correctly :)

If the lateral growths are not excessive, reaching out for feet and trying to curl round stuff, then I'd be inclined to leave it till Spring - if you only bought the plant this year, it's unlikely to flower for a couple of years anyway, frankly, so any pruning you do should really just be of the training, shaping kind at this stage.
I went to do the one I've left late this year - to discover it looks fully autumned, as if its the beginning of October, and has hardly put on much growth compared to last year. Now, I'm not sure whether its got a problem, or whether its the weather conditions...
