Hi, anyone out there with any exp of growing peanuts ??
Was in a garden centre yesterday and had a peek in an already opened peanut growing kit.
Box contained 5 shelled nuts, 1, 2" terracota pot, and a small bag of vermiculite. Total cost, £4-50

That set me off thinking, they must be easy to grow.

All answers appreciated and followed up

Thanks

Hi,actually i have bought a packet to do just that this year.
Here is a bit of the instructions that came with the seeds
REF.SECRET SEEDS.CO.UK
PRE-SOAK SEEDS FOR 12HRS AND SOW MID TO LATE SPRING IN A WARM GREENHOUSE OR WINDOWSILL.
PLANT SEEDS ABOUT ONE TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES IN LIGHT SANDY COMPOST WITH PLENTY OF ORGANIC MATTER AS THE PLANTS ARE GREEDY.
GERMINATION IS ABOUT TWO WEEKS
THE MALE FLOWERS ARE YELLOW, THE FEMALE FLOWER ONCE FERTILISED WILL CURVE DOWNWARDS AND THE DEVELOPING POD WILL FORCE ITSELF INTO THE SOIL AND EACH ONE WILL PRODUCE TWO PEANUTS UNDERGROUND
AT THE END OF THE GROWING SEASON THE PLANT DIES BACK AND LET THE SOIL DRY OUT AND ENJOY!!!!
by the way they can grow up to 10ft high and the stalk on the female flower may have to be guided into the soil.
also inspect daily and do not let soil become dry.
So ,if you decide to have a go HAPPY GROWING
BREN BUT HAVE JUST SEEN YOUR QUESTION AGAIN AND A 2INS POT IS NO GOOD AT LEAST 8INS WIDE AND8INS DEEP AS THE DEVELOPING NUTS BURY THEMSELVES UP TO 6INS

nuts from the feeders germinated in amongst the shrubs, interesting plant with root nodules . full of beneficial bacteria to fix nitrogen into the soil. My kids enjoyed watching their progress.
