Has anyone else noticed an absence of Squirrels in their gardens? I can't say I miss them, but think it strange that as I have a tree full of hazelnuts there have been no visitors. In previous years the nuts have been taken within days. I met a neighbour in the street today and he asked me the same question. We are puzzled.

We were only talking about this today, we are normally plaged by them but none this year, could it be down to the severe winter we had?

Interesting, I wonder if it's just certain areas. I would hate to think they are being poisoned in mine, though I can't say they are my favourite creatures. We have a lot of badgers here but as squirrels are very fast and badgers are only out at night, we don't think they can be the reason.

My aunt would be more than happy for a decline lol, the little "@*!?#*!" kept digging up her peas. Although she did see one get run over on the main road by her house the other day.

I've been told we still have the killer squirrel in the park by us (used to be well known for attacking people on the way to the registry office lol).

And for the finale something keeps digging up my garden (beds and grass) too small for a cat or fox, I'm pretty sure its the squirrel grrr.

Its all go with the squirrels in Sandwell.

In some parts of the country they are culling Grey Squirrels to allow the Red Squirrel population to recover. I seem to remember that the grey in some areas were suffering from some sort of disease which if contacted by reds would wipe out much of the reds population.

Don't know if culling is happening in your area.

We normally have 4 or 5 of the blighters, pinching all the birdfeed etc and digging holes here and there. But I'm delighted to say we've only seen an occasional one this year.

Interesting that they don't seem to be disappearing in certain areas more than others. I have even picked the hazelnuts from the ground and laid them all out on a table for them - still no takers. Weird.
