Are the seed pods on potatoes any good for anything ?
they hang down like tomatoes on the vine.
are they safe to put in my compost bin ?

Unless your compost gets very hot I wouldn't put the fruits in or you are likely to have lots of tiny potatoes growing in it. I always put the fruits either in the wheely bin or in the bag to go to the municipal composting where I send weeds that take a long while to compost properly. The municipal composting is done at a much higher temperature than any home composting and kills all seeds.

Remember that the potato fruits are poisonous.
