my kleim hardy gardenias look as though they're about to die. when new leaves appear the ones underneath turn yellow then brownish then drop off. they are on a sunny site in ericaceous compost in 12 inch pots and are watered regularly. can any body help. they in no way resemble the picture in the catalogue

What have you been feeding them? They don't need massive amounts of food, but in a pot they need regular, moderate feeding with an acid-forming fertilizer for continued health.
