how do you get a start off of a rodademdrum

If you mean from a rhododendron that you already have, then you can 'layer' a short piece by pegging it to the ground where, in about a year, it will have set roots, then you can cut the small plantlet away from the main plant and pot up.

Rhododendrons in general require an acid soil (ericaceous compost) ... good luck with your plants... :o)
