If you are planting perennials that will come up every year, shrubs, trees etc then autumn is ideal. For tender plants , annuals and many vegetables then mostly it will be next spring or early summer.

It would really help if you let us know which 'them' you are planning on planting. Inverglen's advice is good but general and if we know which plant/shrub/tree you are asking about we can be more specific.
