Why are my sister's sweetpea buds dropping off? They are in a sunny site, well fed and watered but she is loosing buds. She thought birds were taking them but now believes they are just dropping off just leaving bare stems. It happens when they are small and their colour is pale.

they have bud drop, quite common, they will grow out of it.

I second scrumpy in that bud drop is due a period of cold weather or shock and the plants soon recover.

Ah, that sounds hopeful then, thanks. We did go from very hot to me needing a hot water bottle in bed, so quite a drop in temperature.
They are in a raised bed about twelve inches high which has an open bottom into the ground.
