how to look after strelitzia reginae

Answers

It likes a fast draining compost, in a pot a little on the small side. Keep an eye on it though, because they have been known to break pots with their tuberous roots when too crowded! They like the top cm of compost to dry out between soakings, and they like a fertilizer with high nitrogen, low phosphate, and high potash. They bloom best when they get at least 4 hours of direct sun a day, or the equivalent in very bright artificial light. The bloom season is somewhat flexible, but I have found them to produce the most buds from October to April.
