Is it difficult to grow Aubretia especially from seed,I would like to grow some plants so that they will be established for next years flowering season. Also are there other colours than blue.

Its quite easy although you might be a bit late in the season. I grew a packet a few years ago and 24 came up - most are still growing in my garden. There are different shades of blue and mauve and I have a beautiful dark purply red colour.

If a friend has Aubretias growing well. Ask to Pull out some bits with the bottom off the stem left on. Make a slit in the soil, with a trowel, pop the stems in the slit where you want them to grow in Sept/early Oct and then just wait. Several stems in each slit. I have always extended my plants this way. Or buy some now, plant and do as I have suggested. This year or next.
