I'll be planting the Dianthus amurensis Siberian Blues which I grew from seed this year (think they might have been freebies with a magazine), and potting up some dwarf sunflowers and French marigolds to sell on. No doubt weeding too, as usual! Good luck with your veg, Great.

I cannot garden in the weekend as I cannot leave my foster child unattended :( I do my garden mainly in the week days when he is at school. I am ok with that. I still get to walkabout or just relax, but no gardening. :))) With all the rain we are getting I hope your veggies will catch up and get big very soon.

I will be sitting back and admiring mine I hope but I know wht im like il start weeding and tying bck the plants the wind has blown over....also picking up dogs poop! (that happens most days tho). I find it impossible to just sit there! I always spot something to do.

Weeding, weeding and more weeding. The heavy rain followed by sun followed by more heavy rain has created the best crop of weeds ever!

Hello Great,

Good question to ask.

I really just want to enjoy the garden, but do need to tackle grass weeds (Couch grass seems to be everywhere and growing like mad). So lots of procrastination then I will tackle the weeds, eventually.

I'll be inside, praying for warmth - either that or hugging the radiator, its cold here and my plants on the balcony are really slow because of it. They're forecasting 14 deg C for Saturday for goodness' sake.

I'll be in the Canary Islands - flying out early Saturday morning!

Cutting down a big tree then digging up the roots by hand

I want to mow the lawns...when they are dry, do a bit of weeding, re paint the door on the datcha...a job that I have been meaning to do all spring, maybe have a BBQ, and just generaly having a potter about and relaxing.

Ooh Sheilar, can I come with you, at least it'll be warm...

9 Jun, 2011

Yeah, course you can - are you packed and ready?

9 Jun, 2011

No, of course not, haven't been to the beauty salon either, always essential before a hot holiday. Ho hum, have a great time Sheilar;-))

I have just returned from the canaries and sorry to say it was cold, windy and chilly!!! I was cruising with my pals and for two days the ships doors were closed due to high winds!! Hope it improves Sheilar. Apart from that, Hi Great, where have you been??????? Hopefully gardening and weeding etc. I have been busy re-planting my 'new' border and keeping the lawn cut, it is looking lovely.

I've been on holiday from work all week..I ended up erecting a fence that I wasn't going to do til later in the year....so I'll be doing all the jobs I was suppossed to do this week. Mowed the back lawn this evening so that's one down - one to go!! Lift some turf and a few slabs, persuade my son and his mates to move a tool shed for me, put some new wires over the fences for the climbers...weed the paths...weed the pavement outside in the street(council's job but I hate looking at them)...put new timber on the shed roof...and anything else that crops up!!!

I had to come back on, Great - just heard the weather forecast for today and the weekend here in London - a very chilly 6 deg C tonight, so our plants won't be romping ahead, will they...

OMG its cold here in London. I've just gone shopping with my winter coat on!!!! We've finally had rain in London water butt is full at long last. Now I need another one lol as we will soon get a hose pipe ban!!
Hope you get to have your BBQ Rogi!
There's a few of you painting and erecting fences. Please, please leave a hole in your fence 15 cms wide for hedgehogs (I've been watching spring watch!) I have to put up netting to stop pigeons eating my courgette leaves
Michaelle, maybe you can do some sowing with your foster child if he/she is old enough.
Oh, almost forgot there are 2 surveys to do this weekend OPAL are asking people to do a bug survey and the BTO are counting birds.
Grandmarg how was the holiday?
Bamboo lets hope the weatherman has got it wrong and it warms up.
Im leaving my grass (good excuse not to mow it!!!!) To encourage creepy crawlies. I have seen quite a few crickets in my garden already.
Happy gardening everyone

It's been bucketing down so my gardening plans have been dashed. Here's hoping the weather improves tomorrow!

11 Jun, 2011

Much to my surprise, we've not had a drop today, well, not since I got up anyway, which was pretty late this morning. So I did get outside, just did a bit of deadheading, spraying, cutting back, tying in and a little bit of planting. Annies plant - our forecast for tomorrow is for exactly what you've got today...

Bamboo what part of London are you in Im sending my poor old dad off the B&Q to buy me another water butt as its pouring here. There are rumours that we will get a waterpipe ban soon Strange weather one minute a monsoon, next its really hot and yesterday it was freezing I had my heavy coat on!!!! Flaming june - not.

12 Jun, 2011

First, we're not having a hosepipe ban here in London - the reservoirs around London are 90% full, believe it or not. It's poor old East Anglia that is having water restrictions, but they often suffer drought. I'm in West London, and Sunday was appalling - wet all day from about 11 a.m. till around 11 p.m. Nice today though, sun/cloud, windy-ish.

Hallo all. For me the whit weekend is over and back to work this morning!. So...did you do those jobs at the weekend that you intended to do?.... I think I did and a bit more as well..I managed to mow the 2 lawns and scarify the top one...that was real hard work...got loads of stuff out of it and then as it was going to rain overnight I put some lawn fertiliser on it...it looks a bit better now. I painted the door of the datcha...it is one of those 60´s style aluminium one with aluminium struts and opaque glass...I think it looks horrible....the previouse owners had put it in, anyway I painted the struts white...now it looks a bit better..to me, I then went to a couple of car boot sales...I love them, didn´t buy much...just a couple of old horse shoes that I intend...it´s always intend to me...put on the wooden garden gat that I INTEND to make some time!...so in all I had a good weekend..now back to the "Grindstone".

well I'm a happy bunny with the thunder storm and all this rain my garden has started to do what it should have done a long time ago....grow!!!! ha ha The peas and French beans have finally started to grow up their canes. The courgettes has got 4 leaves and tomato plants are about 4 inches high. Thank you mother nature for making it grow!!

18 Jun, 2011

well another weekend is upon us and were having a thunder storm here in London. But I'm glad to say it seems to be energising the garden, as the beans and peas have started to get their act together and start growing!!! They have finally started to grow up there canes. I was beginning to think I'd put the canes in the ground for a laugh lol. Courgettes have only a few leaves so they'd better get a move on. Beetroot and radish no where to be seen!!! Potatoes are looking good - just hope they don't get blight!!
