Can anybody help with identifying this native plant I found in my local area (Port Stephens)? I have only found a couple of instances of this plant and am intrigued.

Hi Tamara, my best guess would be a Protea. it is a guess though, it is not the same as any vareity that i have come across myself but there are so many different ones that i doubt i have seen them all! both leaves and flowers do bare a striking resemblance to a lot of the Protea family that i have seen. so i would say Protea

If the flower was hanging down I'd have thought it was a Correa of some kind. There about 20 different ones from ground hugging to small tree. The leaves vary from circular to lance. But I can't find one with an erect flower. The Protea is a possibility but it is indigenous to South Africa not NSW, if you are certain about that.
