How much to prune crinodendron hookerianum?

I have one of these excellent shrubs in my border standing about 7ft tall . However i need to cut some of it back as it growing to far over the path. i need to know how ruthless i can be without damaging it and when it can be done ? many thanks.

Prune after flowering and deadhead, only when needed. If you want to cut hard back choose large branches in December. You may need to seal the cuts. Shape to your satisfaction.
