Weed query 5. This plant is growing very quickly up through the Bluebells which you can see in the background. I remember it as a child and that it stuck to my clothes and the dog's fur. I'm in no doubt that it is a weed and I should remove it, but before I sign it's death certificate, I'd like to know it's name.

Goose Grass aka Cleavers. produces little green fruits covered in tiny hooks that get caught on your socks or the coats of cats & dogs.

Flipping nusiance i get a lot of it pull it out as soon as you see it, must admit it does come out easily, sticks to your gloves etc.,

The stem breaks off just above ground level Sewingkilla, so the roots are left in the ground and regrow quickly. You could say it comes up quickly, but it's not out!

Bernard, I can't believe you didn't play with this weed when you were a child. We used to stick handfuls on friends' and siblings' backs - and see how much we could get on there before they noticed. Suddenly your brother would get all hearty and back-slappy... :-)

Thanks for the identification. I don't recall any contact with it in central London when I was a nipper, Beattie.

This pulls up really easily and when you see just yank it out. It is a nusiance.

When you just yank it out it leaves the roots behind so, like The Terminator, "I'll be back".

You must have had a deprived childhood, Bernard. What, no parks to play in? You mean you and your friends didn't wear green wigs made of "sticky weed"?

Beattie, when I yank out a plant, I do a proper job!

That's me told then! ;-)

Beattie, if I told you about my 'deprived' chidhood you would have bad dreams for weeks and as for 'friends', they were an unknown species. Still, it turned out alright in the end and I'm now happiy married with four gorgeous daughters, so I make up for lost time in the cuddles department.
