pruning heathers

i have quite a few different varieties of heather in my garden but they have become very leggy.can i cut them back or have i left it too late

I am NOT an expert on Heathers, but I do know that they need trimming back after flowering, so if they are winter-flowering plants, you'd lose the flowers if you did it now. Summer-flowering? Probably enough time to give them a hair-cut still, I would have thought. I expect somebody else who knows Heathers better will be able to give you more help.
