Lemon Tree

My father-in-law has a lemon tree on his glassed-in varandah. It has always had a good crop in the past, but this year it has only produced 2 fruit, and also several of the laeves are covered in a clear sticky substance which makes them look sweaty. Any ideas?

Snails find the leaves delicious, check under the pot rim, and other likely hiding places. Aphids?
