Cupressus Goldcrest

I havw goldcrest conifer which is about 8 ft tall and I am not certain when,or if, I should start pruning it to get a decent shape. Any advice would be appreciated.

Getting late for this year, best left till next year, you can prune anytime during the growing season, but never cut back hard into old wood, When you do start pruning just cut back current years growth. About twice a year for a more formal shape , little and often for a more defined outline.
