Not sure but judging by the colouring of the leaves I was thinking one the prunus family, I have tried zooming in on the trunk and it does look like the bark of a cherry, the second picture I thought sweet chestnut by the long serrated leaves which yellow well in autumn, but it’s hard to tell a chestnut have opposite leaves and sweetchestnuts would be scattered around the tree so maybe both of prunus families but like I say not sure, that said the bark with those lenticles should prove it to be prunus.

Thanks Julien,
I think it must be a very unusual cherry ... but I’ve just emailed our local council in the hope that someone might know for sure. These trees are not in any other road in the town.

Thanks Klahanie. The council say they will reply “within ten days “ so don’t hold your breath!

Would you be able to add picture of trunk and close up of bark, as that might be a good way to identify the tree ?
