Hello everyone. Can I have some advice again please. We had a large pond constructed last June and I amCecelia now thinking about increasing the number of plant in the pond. My question is how to feed the plants so they grow and remain healthy. I would like to feed the plants just once or twice a year so how should I do this and what type of food would you recommend. We do not have fish as Herons roost near our house. Thanks

If they are in the water then I wouldn't feed them at all; I never have.

No don't feed them as the water will turn green. They will get the minerals etc they need from what ever is in the water. there will be lots of insects in there especially as you don't have fish.
when you put new plants in use a compost designed for ponds or just fill the planting with fine gravel to keep the plants in place.

I bought some pond plants from an aquatic centre and they just used JI 1. I was surprised but they've been OK.

There is special aquatic compost for pond plants. Anywhere that sells plants for ponds should stock it as well

Thank you all again. Sorry my typing leaves a lot to be desired and I get the words in the wrong place! It never stops you giving me good advice though. I do love my garden and appreciate the help you give me. Thanks Cecelia.

Andrew do you know what is the difference in composition between aquatic and JI 1? I was very surprised when the pond supplier said he uses JI1 but it seems to have been OK.

I would imagine aquatic compost has no feed in it as pond plants don't need any. JI1 will have a small amount. All my plants are grown in aquatic compost and are thriving

How do I say thanks?
