Please bear with me, I may have asked half of this question before.
Photo 1 shows some plants I had in my garden, and want to know the name of the 2 or 3 standing tall together about 1/3 fron the left hand side.
Photo 2 shows some seed pods my grandson collected from them as he wants to grow them, and exactly how to do this.
He’s only just showing an interest and I only grow veg. Thanks.

The plant with the large divided leaves is Acanthus, probably Acanthus mollis, Bear's Breeches. Is that the one you mean?

Thanks L, see the tall plant on the left with the cane projecting above ? Above it ? I mean the 2 to the right of this that are almost exactly the same height.

As landgirl said; Acanthus.

Those seeds don't look anything like ripe to me, they should have been left on the plant. All your GS can do is leave somewhere cool and dry on paper and see if they will ripen but, I doubt it.

Thanks all. Grandson won’t be happy with your reply Mg, but will do as he’s told.

Yes, Acanthus or Bears Breeches. Are there no more seed pods on the plants?

So good that your grandson is showing an interest. I wish one of mine would.

Learning curve for grandson - the lesson is to learn to tell when seeds are ripe before picking them! He probably won't be happy with that either but its a vital thing to learn if he wants to germinate them! Acanthus is a bit of a demon for spreading though so if he wants a plant rather than just grow the seeds there should be some young ones nearby?

The seeds go black/ dark brown when ripe. If you'd like some I can collect them from mine when ripe and post them. But they do produce a root that is difficult to dig out if they get too big.

Thanks for the replies. No thanks S.G. - sadly his interest has disappeared with this setback.

Oh dear that is a pity...

The one on the left, on the cane, looks like a Mullein (Verbascum), to me. The purple globes to the right look like Globe Thistle (Echinops)

Thanks all.

How do I say thanks?
