Can anyone advise me on new wooden trellis planters, do i need to treat them before planting up & can they be placed on earth.

I would definately use preserver on wood outdoors, it will look better for longer too, moreso if youa re placing them directly onto earth.

It is not essential but they will last longer if treated with preserver that is plant friendly. Ask retailer if item was pressure treated on manufacture.
