Tree Fern (Dicksonia antarctica) help please. Whilst trying to clear a bamboo thicket at our new home, I came across a tree fern (Dicksonia antarctica). I am trying to give it a new lease of life and dug it up (it was quite well rooted) and replanted it in what I think is a better area. It is difficult to know if the plant is dead - the roots looked ok. I am unsure whether to cut the trunk back or just to leave it and hope that it throws out some new fronds next Spring. Any advice would be appreciated. We live in Cornwall

If you cut the top six inches or more off, that's the bit that might regrow, and the rest of the trunk will be defunct and dead. I have to say this looks like an ex tree fern, to be honest, but all you can do is spray the trunk regularly with water and keep your fingers crossed.

Thank you Bamboo. I will try that but like you I am not overly optimistic.

How do I say thanks?
