I have no idea what these tubers are. I believe theses were grown by the previous Chinese family . Could do none assist to identify them?

They look like Dahlias

No they are not dahlia tubers because the leaves are like 'yam leaves'

Best thing is to put them back in the ground and see what happens next year.

perhaps they are yams then.

Hi, perhaps I'm missing something here, but the only green I can see, appears to be grass, and there's very little difference between Dahlia tubers and yams, both are edible, with different types having slightly different tastes, I would keep them frost free over the winter, and then do as Bulba suggests, and see what you get, Derek.

whether you get dahlias or yams, you can't go wrong, but I've never seen yams like this.

No idea what they are - post a picture when they're in leaf or flowering, that would help enormously.

Have you tried eating dahlias Derek? Just wondering what they taste like.

Hard to imagine sweet potatoes or true yams doing well in B.C., Jtham, but it's not impossible. Were they vining plants, maybe with light yellowish green or deep purple leaves? Some varieties of ornamental sweet potato are a little more tolerant of cool wet conditions than those grown for dinner, but they rarely produce such large tubers in those conditions.

Hi Sue, I haven't actually eaten them myself, but apparently the taste varies, some being very bland, others varying from celery tasting, to carrot, apple etc, never really fancied eating them, there's so much more choice available, lol. Derek.
