I several lavedar plants that I am growing on from cuttings

I several lavender plants that I am growing on from cuttings. They have been doing really well for several weeks but I now notice that some are beginning to die back and look mildewy. What can I do to save these or at least stop the others from going the same way.

More info needed - what are you growing them in? Compost, vermiculite, grit? Are they in a propagator, covered with polythene? How often/how much do you water them?
The first thought is that the mildew means they are too wet.
