Please can anyone recommend a pretty ornamental cherry tree that does not grow too big - about approx 2 metres tall?

Try one of the weeping cherry trees they are grafted and some only grow 4 foot in height

Prunus kojo no mai is very pretty and only grows slowly. It's eventual height is about 2 metres.
(Now this reminds me to get another one because mine grew in a pot and it died when I forgot to water it)

Moongrower, I'm afraid I am not overkeen on weeping cherry trees . Do you know of any others please, sorry to be a bother.
Hywel, I am off to look this one up straightaway. We cleared a small bed today in the garden and would like to put a cherry tree in it.

I saw one today in a garden centre for £9.99 I wish I'd bought it now ... It's quite hardy.
I like all the ornamental cherries.
I hope you find one you like.

Hywel, could you call back to get it or is it too far?
Hope you are able to get there if you would like it.
It sounds ideal for us also.
Thank you.

Prunus cistena - grows to about 5ft - has purple/red leaves. Or what about a dwarf almond as an alternative. There's a very nice one called Ingrid something, or something Ingrid, and you'll get edible almonds from it.

It was in Carmarthen (about 20 miles away) I may go there over the week end :)
Hope you can get one ...

Another possible one is prunus tenella 'Fire Hill', the dwarf Russian almond. It is an upright grower to five feet with bright pink flowers, and is planted in the Lime Walk at Sissinghurst.

Thank you so much for your help with this.

I have made a note of each suggestion and am sure that any one of them would suit really well.

I love our Prunus cistena with its purple leaves, and "suitable for small gardens" too!
