I know this isn't a gardening question, I'm thinking of buying a 9 in 1 steam cleaner, apparently you can do all sorts of things with it, it mentions ovens, but I have a fan oven, and can't find any information, as to whether a steam cleaner can be used on a fan oven, so I was wondering if any GoYers could give me any information on this, Derek.

I have a steam cleaner H2Ox5 - it was a gift (I wanted a Vax wet/dry carpet cleaner), but I can't say that it's something I would have bought for myself. Maybe a higher spec steam cleaner would have more about it - haven't tried it on anything greasy (cooker) but I'm not really impressed with it's performance on my black and white quarry tile floor.

Hi Urbanite, it's the fan I'm a bit concerned about, it only has a sort of steel cover on it, which is slotted, the heating elements are covered, but I don't know where the electrics are for the fan, whether they're right behind the fan, or enclosed elsewhere, I don't fancy using steam on it, and then blowing it the next time I turn the oven on, Derek.

You could clean the sides and bottom with the steam cleaner and hand clean around the fan.... Take a look at http://www.ehow.co.uk/way_5155473_diy-oven-steam-cleaning.html
If you think about it there is often stveam in the oven the issue with the steam cleaner is the amount of steam. The adverts show steam cleaners making a good job of cleaning the glass doors.
If in doubt it might be worth contacting the oven manufacturer/supplier

well when you cook at high tempreture in your oven water evaporates at said high temp as steam so I don't think youl have to worry to much as it will excit vier the fan as with the door shut the fan is the only way out for the hot air . id just be carefull round that part .

As long as you leave the door open and let it dry out it will be ok. To be sure you could use a fan heater or something to dry out the oven after you clean it.

I'd contact the manufacturer of the cleaner, if possible, and ask them direct. I reckon it'd be fine, personally, most people have fan ovens these days anyway. Don't, though, use your steam cleaner on wood or laminate flooring - it can cause warping.

Hi, thank you all for the comments, I have been in touch with the manufacturers, and there's no problem, Steve, the oven isn't 1 of those self clean ones, had 1 of those years ago, and you're right they do smoke, { and stink } :-) Derek.
