Hi, I want to put wire up to hold a climbing rose.
1) Should I use a tensioner, they look complicated.
2)What gauge of wire should I use.

Any other advice would be gratefully received as I not the

Where are you wanting to put the wire up? It does make a difference.

I have just put wires up for a rose and I did not use a tensioner as I think you need a bit of slack when attaching the roses and you also get the flexibility of winding some shoots and branches around the wire. I like a loose look to my garden, but maybe if you want a very structured look to your rose then a tensioner is better. I just put eyes in the fence and wound the wire through.
