I think its a foxglove too. Unusual colour.

Appears to be a foxglove plant. A year or two ago there was a case where a wife served her husband chopped foxglove mixed in with his dinner salad. She was successful in planting her poor husband in the ground. The plant contains digitalis. Since it is blooming and it was not noticed previously this is the plants second and perhaps final year.

It is indeed a foxglove. this is a lovely one. they self seed freely and if it is the wild flower [European native] it will die this autumn. the seeds will grow in the first year then flower in the second year.

That sort of information just should not be put out on the web, Loosestrife!!!!!!!!!!

I think its pretty general knowledge that foxgloves are poisonous?

Me to but, apparently himself didn't know!

I stand corrected Bulbaholic. If offended anyone my apologies and I am sorry. That poor unfortunate mans wife probably got the idea from an Agatha Christie novel which she purchased at the local bookstore. To be certain I'll never will walk into one of those places again.

Just watching my own back, Loosestrife: I have to be very, very careful on this site ;-)))))))

Loosestrife, Bulba is/was winding you up! You'd need more than a few leave of digitalis in your salad to get topped!

thanks you all I thought it was a foxglove myself but my neighbour can't figure out how it got planted. And Loosestrife thought that was a bit of mystery book humour I already knew about foxglove being poison, it was just identifying it to be sure. There are children around so we wanted to be sure.
Thanks again.

Yea, I spilled the beans to Bulbaholic so he knows where I was coming from. I can pull a leg too now and then.

Digitalis is a biannual so it would have seeded itself in 2012 and started to grow as a plant last year.

And the seeds are tiny. Could have been carried by the wind from a fair distance.

How do I say thanks?
