Interesting me to!

it reminds me Oxalis [cant remember species name] variety 'Ione hecker'

oxalis enneaphylla 'ione hecker'. Just checked my book of purchases. the scaley rhizomes are quite soft and snap easily. if I'm right that is.

The oxalis rhizomes are like pink shrimps. I know what you mean Seaburngirl, but I don't think these are.
Lilies? if they have been in the pot for too long the noses may have been forced upwards instead of making a more rounded bulb? Just a guess.
I see there is a label at the back of the top picture. Any writing on it at all, Scotsgran?

that's a good description but if they are in the light they would green up though wouldn't they Bulbaholic?. What size are they scotsgran?
I too am intrigued by the little blighters.

No, Sbg, they stay pink regardless.

thanks for that info BA. in that case scotsgran I have no idea what they are. you'll have to grow them on and show us next year. :o)

Sg, can you unpot them properly and put up a picture of what they really look like. They look as if they would benefit from re-potting anyway. Every time I look at the pictures I am doubting my own suggestions.

martagon lily bulbs are scally as are L pumilium. Wonder if they could be one of those. Need and idea of scale [pardon the pun] and some seem to be sprouting too.

The label is useless but below th soil level I have written 2. I take it both pots are the same. I will go and try and unearth them. I will repot at the same time. I thought these were cones that had fallen in to empty pots but when I looked closer I knew they were not. I am taking more of an interest in what plants look like under the earth and hoped someone would know. I will add photos asap.

The first part of the plant unearthed from the first pot was slightly smaller than the second part. It had very long roots. I did not know there is a maximum of 3 photos on questions. I think pink shrimps are a very good description Sbg and Bb. It is interesting to look closely at plants. I did not remove the soil from around the contents of pot two because they are doing rather well and just needing potting in a bigger pot. Thank you both for looking I take it you can confirm what I have is an Oxalis.

Yes, I was wrong and it is an Oxalis. I have not seen them go green like that before. Thank you for unpotting them, Scotsgran.

ooh now I wonder which one it might be scotsgran. thanks for unpotting them.

I have spent a lot of time trying to find where I recorded these in my list of plants in My Pictures. I have two listed Hemswell Knight and Oxalis adenophylla. I am not sure if I have one of each here or both the same. I will post photos when they flower. You mentioned Oxalis enneaphylla Ione hecker Sbg. I looked that up along with Hemswell Knight and it is the same plant but different colours. Time will reveal all. I cannot thank you enough for all your help.

I am clearing out labels etc and came across two. The one with 2 marked on it is Oxalis enneaphylla pink vein. Pale pink saucer shaped flowers on a dense clump of grey green foliage. Ht 12cms Spring. Well drained soil.

The second label has a 1 on it Oxalis 'ione hecker'

Both were bought at an SRGC event from the stand of Ardfern Nursery in Inverness. I'm not sure which is which at the moment but it should be obvious when they srart growing as one is 6cm and the other 12cms. Well done Sgb.
For first time readers of this question I had to replace the original photos to help SGB and Bb see what was in the pots.

well I noticed one of my rhizomes was above soil level and it had turned nicely green, just like yours. glad you found your labels.
its nice to right occasionally :o)

I'm pleased to get your answers. I now have all of my known labels scanned in to a series of folders in My Pictures. I'll try to keep up with them in future. I'm going to have to transfer them all to cd's in case I lose the lot.
