Hi all I rally want to cover my garden fencing with climbers but my problem is when I have planted climbers against the fence they are shadowed by the other plants I know I should have planted these first but I have only been gardening for 4 years and never gave it a thought before i put all my tall plants at the back does anyone have any thoughts on this please thanks guys

do your tall plants die down over winter? if so then plant the climbers from autumn onwards. tie the climbers into wires/trellis to encourage the direction you want them in. then as they both grow away in spring the bare stems at the bottom of the climbers will be hidden.

Clematis will like that position, with roots shaded and heads in the sun.
