Possibly Fatshedra a cross between ficus and Ivy. lovely structural plant.

I think it looks a bit like the castor oil plant, but am no expert.

It looks like a bog standard Fatsia japonica to mem, if in need of a feed as it looks pale. Fatshedera are more ivy looking and do not form stalks.

I believe it is Fatsia japonica 'castor oil' plant.

Surely the 'Castor oil plant is Ricinus.
Very chlorotic looking Fatsia that one.

Yes Fatsia japonica, now if you need to reduce it in size then dont worry, Fatsia always responds well to renovation pruning, does better in shady situations, is yours in full sun?

Thank you Seaburngirl, Mabroon, Kildermorie, Michaella and Owdboggy, not sure what chlorotic means, does it mean it looks pale and sickly?
By the way, I love this site!
I only moved into this house last October, so am still finding new plants.
Many thanks, Chrissie

Just looked closely at your avatar Chrissie - so disappointed by the last line!!

Fatsia japonia is 'false castor oil plant'. It looks little like Castor oil plant/Ricinus IMHO.

Chrissiefizz - the plant needs a feed, a general plant food is fine. It is a nice plant that you have that would cost quite a bit to buy.

They do do best in shade, but sheltered shade/sun is fine. If in full sun then as long as the soil is damp then it will be fine. It looks about 10+ years old, so must be happy if pale looking.

How does Fatsia Japonica get pruned?

16 May, 2013

I am used to Fatsia in shade, which as dark green. Those in full sun are pale green, so your Fatsia actually look fine if they are in full sun. A feed is always fine.

To prune a Fatsia you prune below a leaf where you want the height to be.
